  • Happy Wednesday December 5!
Happy Sinterklaasdag to any of you dutchies.

Well, I was all set and ready to get out of here at 10 AM and drive to Cabin John rink but …. it is snowing here in Northern Va and the crazies are out. I made it as far as the last exit on the “greedway” (the toll is over $3 now!) and then I had to bail on 28. I should have kept going and gone on the Fairfax, but I didn’t. I drove back home becuase there were too many crashed up cars on the road. Man! rude drivers everywhere.
My car has snow tires on by the way. Hubby put them on last night at 10:00pm. He loves playing with cars.

So, I came home and I have been doing a jillion things here.
For one, rearraging the living room…. moving the ginormous book cases.

I am listening to Christmas CD’s, maybe I will mix up some cooookies.
    okay. Later.
Do not forget to put out your klompen tonight, for he commeth.
He is so generous and he loves little children….. okay, well, maybe he won’t know

How beautiful a day can be
    When kindness touches it!

  • I remember when I lived in Virginia…what ever little snow we got caused the place to practically shut down…they don’t know how to drive in that weather. I was so amazed when I moved to Massachusetts and with all the snow they get, everyone just plows on down the road as if nothing is going on. It’s just as well you came home..got off the roads. Besides, rearranging furniture is fun.  A new look in minutes!!

    Stay warm PR.

  • best to be home out of the weather.  The crazies are out.  A shooting today in Omaha at a mall.  What a mess of a world at times.

Be safe, stay warm, bake cookies.

I’m going to have a hot cup of tea.

  • Okay, what is Sinterklaasdag?  Sounds like you are saying Santa Claus Day.  I do have a Dutch heritage on my dad’s side but I sure don’t know much about it.  I should research that sometime.  Sounds like you were not supposed to drive.  Best to listen to that little voice and turn around.  Hmmm, tea sounds good, think I will join you.

  • I stayed home today – too much snow here for me!  But tomorrow will be interesting, I’m sure.

Hee hee – “klompen” – gotta love words sometimes!

I need to get out my CDs now.

  • Ok, I’m going to leave my klompen outside. I expect to find goodies in them.

  • makes me glad I’m in FtWorth Tx. it’s 79degrees here. sorry!

  • Here in WI, St. Nick’s night (or day?) used to be big.  Think that was on the 6th, too. Think mostly sweet treats were given.  Don’t see as many ads reminding people that St. Nick’s day is almost here.  Maybe it was really your Sinterklaasdag Americanized!?

  • I ain’t putting MY klompen out for anyone but Hubs.

  • Last time I exposed my klompen to someone, I went to the gevangenis without my buers or laag.

  • In France Sinterklaas is called St Nicholas  ( and it i son the 6th ) . But it is only in the north and east of France and also in Belgium .
In the past children got their gifts not at Christmas but at St Nicholas Day . We liked this . Christmas was not at this time a feast for the children  ( no Santa Clauss and even not a tree  )but for everyone since it is the Nativity . Now what is Christmas ?

You have been wise not to drive on the road . Keep safe , Rosemary.

    Love

  • I wondered how you all were doing in the weather.  I would have just turned around and come home, too!

  • How are you , Rosemary ?

I hope I haven’t let the cat out of the bag

  • Thank you Rosemary for the history of St Nicholas /Sinterklaas .
But I hust read the comment above .

If it is the case je te souhaite un bon anniversaire , Rosemary .
